Anyone who knows JG knows she considers there to be 2 food groups: Chips and Chocolate. So when Lays came out with this year’s flavor swap contest, it only made sense that JG and the team would take part in this. Then M&Ms threw us a curveball and made their new flavor contest. HOW COULD WE BE SO LUCKY?!
For Lays, the rules were simple… You do a blind taste test between the different flavor options and then you decide which you like best. Next, it is revealed which flavors you were judging and whether it’s out with the old and in with the new.
We started with the Lay’s Flavor Contest because everyone knows after a salty snack you crave sweet.
Our first pairing is Old Kettle Cooked Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper (A) versus New Kettle Cooked Olive Oil & Herbs (B).
Jes: Never can go wrong with the basics, although I am feeling the ‘A’. Can’t we just keep them both?
Rocio: I am sticking with the Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper, which I know is ‘A’.
Jamie: Chip ‘B’ for sure. I like the new flavor! I find it very earthy and satisfying.
Kait: Both of the flavors are very bland for my tastes but if I had to pick one it would be ‘A’.
Winner: Keep the Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper!
Next we have Old Cheddar and Sour Cream (A) versus New Smoked Gouda and Chive (B).
Jes: I’m judging this one by which I would sit and eat the whole bag of and that’s definitely ‘A’. It just has more flavor.
Rocio: I would go with ‘A’ because it is cheesy and yummy.
Jamie: I really like ‘B’ because the seasoning is on point.
Kait: I think ‘B’ is better because it has that pop of flavor but doesn't overpower your senses.
Winner: It’s a tie! Let’s keep them both.
Lastly we have the pairing of the Old Honey Barbeque (B) versus New Korean Barbeque (A).
Jes: Oh! I like the sweetness that kicks in at the end for ‘B’.
Rocio: I’m going chip ‘A’, I don't know why I just am.
Jamie: If I had to pick one it would be ‘A’ but I don't really like either of them.
Kait: I’m feeling chip ‘A’ because it has a bit of a kick!
Winner: We choose to swap it out for New Korean Barbeque!
Overall, JG and the team liked the classics. When something is not broke don’t fix it?
Up next was the M&M taste test. What a perfect day in the JG office it was. M&Ms was introducing 3 new flavors and we had to vote for which one we wanted to keep.
The options were Chili Nut (A), Coffee Nut (B), and Honey Nut (C). We also had our awesome friends Leslie Mastin and Annie Rose McGrath of Leslie Mastin Events join us for this one.
Jes: Although I like doing these taste tests as it gives me a perfect excuse to eat more M&Ms, I still like my classic Peanut M&Ms. ‘A’ tasted like a normal peanut M&M until the
kick came in way too late. ‘B’ was my favorite until it left a funny aftertaste. So by default I pick ‘C’.
Rocio: Anyone who knows me, knows I love spice. So after trying ‘A’ I was hooked and there was no other competition.
Jamie: For me ‘A’ was definitely out. Who wants a kick after the M&M is already gone? ‘B’ and ‘C’ were both good but if I had to pick one it would be ‘B’.
Kait: I feel indifferent about all of them, but the best of the worst would be ‘C’.
Leslie: This is so fun! I like how they also came up with new colors for each of them too. I didn't really like ‘A’ even though I get the concept, ‘C’ was nice although it
didn't have much flavor. So by process of elimination I pick ‘B’.
Annie: I was able to guess that ‘A’ was spicy and ‘B’ was coffee. I liked ‘C’ the best and thought it was caramel but when I found out it was honey I liked it even better!
Winner: With 50% of the votes we pick Honey Nut!
It’s not all work and no play when you come to the properFUN office. We just know how to workHARD and partyHARDER :)
